In his EKKO project for Groupe Launay (MOA), architect Duncan Lewis wanted to extend the traditional communal garden at the foot of the building into a 3-dimensional green space, protecting balconies and facades from the street. A balance between vegetation, shading and access to light ensures the privacy of these spaces. Vegetation grows both on the ground and above, thanks to suspended planters. The volume, delimited by a light metal structure, is highlighted by climbing plants that create a planted setting. Designer et architecte britannique, Duncan Lewis (Wallsend, 1959) débute sa carrière au Japon en 1984. Il s’installe en France en 1987 et collabore successivement avec Jacques Hondelatte, Lacaton Vassal, Edouard François de 1994 à 1997, puis crée l’agence Lewis-Potin-Lewis avant de fonder Duncan Lewis Scape Architecture à Bordeaux en en 2005 avec Brigitte Cany-Lewis. Il s'appuie sur la notion de contexte et de territoire, puisant à la source des écosystèmes. Le projet de Pont autoroutier (1993), l'Extension du groupe scolaire Buffon (1995) ou les Gîtes ruraux de Jupilles (1996) conçus avec Édouard François (1994-1999) s'inscrivent en osmose avec le paysage. De la même manière, le Lycée Jean Moulin avec Manal Rachdi, Tanguy Vermet (OFF architecture) et De Giacinto (Revin, 2012) épouse le dénivelé des collines. La Bibliothèque Universitaire Florence Delay (Bayonne, 2008), située au cœur de la ville historique, s’incruste dans les fortifications érigées par Vauban. Duncan Lewis est aussi auteur de plusieurs réalisations emblématiques (Résidence Ama Lurra, Bayonne, 2010 ; Station de tramway Hérouville Saint-Clair, Caen, 2002 ; Jardins des Géants, Lille, 2008). Qui ne connait pas La Cité Manifeste (60 logements semi-individuels) de Mulhouse où il oeuvre au début des années 2000 aux côtés d'Architectures Jean Nouvel, Shigeru Ban / Jean de Gastines, Anne Lacaton & Jean-Philippe Vassal, Mathieu Poitevin / Pascal Reynaud? Aujourd'hui, il travaille en groupement avec H Hans Lefevre. Parallèlement, il enseigne dans les universités et écoles de Barcelone, Londres, Versailles, actuellement Marseille.Dans ce numéro de Com d'Archi, le récit de Duncan Lewis se déroule tel une épopée : la naissance de son désir d'architecture, son expérience au Japon, la naissance puis l'affirmation de sa pratique en France, ses projets. Cet architecte a connu et travaillé avec les plus grands de l'hexagone, dont les noms s'égrènent au fil du discours, dont Jean Nouvel . Nous découvrons ici son approche de l'environnement, laquelle a toujours fait partie de son ADN. Nous partageons avec lui la volonté de ne pas "coller des étiquettes" et la mise à distance des dogmes. Un regard porté sur le monde d'une grande humanité, doublé d'humilité. Liautard & the Queen ou LATQ est née en 2020 de la nouvelle association de Maxime Liautard architecte d’intérieur et designer, diplômé de l’école Penninghen, avec Soraya Djemni-Wagner autodidacte et experte dans le domaine du luxe. Ils s’étaient connus au sein du Studio KO où ils travaillaient dans les années 2012. Ils comptent aujourd’hui à leur actif et par exemple, le restaurant La Môme à Monte-Carlo, l’hôtel Maison Palmier à Abidjan, de nombreuses résidences privées. Ils livrent actuellement l'hotel Florida, d'inspiration Art Déco, dans le quartier de la Madeleine à Paris. Maxime et Soraya sont deux personnalités singulières ne cessant de trouver des projets à leur juste mesure ! Leur agence, située 89 rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine dans le 11e arrondissement de Paris, témoigne de leur talent à mixer les styles en toute élégance ! Dans ce Com d'Archi Maxime et Soraya racontent leur histoire et celles de leurs projets tellement riches en matière. On y retrouve un attachement sentimental et pérenne aux choses, attachement qui s’exprime à un moment où, un certain nombre de nos valeurs sont mises en danger !
