  • 155. Tiffany, Tees, Tudor, And Trump 2.0
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, the gang is all together again and settled into their respective rectangles, all shockingly in their home bases. Rick begins by segueing from the live broadcast of the show (after the clap-in) to reflect on the previous conversation about blue foods being the "taste of 'merica). When they get down to business, the first item on the agenda is the Tudor Black Bay Chrono Flamingo-Blue watch, and it suddenly seems that blue is a theme! But make no mistake; this is NOT "Tiffany blue." But it's really, really close. Next up is a bargain new-release: the Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Meteorite — a bargain only because it's in steel and is a manual-wind. But it exceeds Ripley's expectations, not only in price, which is saying a lot. David then talks about the special laid-back demeanor of Chopard as a brand. He walks us through his hands-on of the L.U.C. Lunar One Perpetual Calendar watches, which he saw in the metal last week at the Chopard manufacture. Let's just cut to the chase: David says it's a "bonkers" watch. The guys have some fun going around the virtual room showing us what they're wearing today (both Ripley and Ariel are wearing the Casio ring watch), and David is wearing the cheapest diamond-set watch in the world. He also reports that he saw a Trump watch in the wild, and the team grills him on deets. For some godforsaken reason, this leads them down the rabbit hole of the Trump watch website. Weird! Thank goodness they finally turn the page and play Hit, Miss Maybe.

  • 154. Lunches And Wonders
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is baaaaaaaack to the land of the living — but where is David? Ariel and Ripley are here, and despite the fact that the word "snot" has been mentioned more times than the law should allow in the first five minutes, Rick is also kind enough to ask Ariel and Ripley how they're doing re the fires in Los Angeles. It's a lot. But we're all comforted by talk of watches, so they guys get right to it, and Ariel discusses a dystopian future when watch media is too thin to cover the watch industrial complex run by the corporate world. Where are the visionaries, the mavericks? Ripley dovetails with this idea and underscores the virtues of not being in any brand's back pocket, i.e., the argument for independent watch media and multiple voices. The trio then takes a look at the new Omega Speedmaster Meteorite Moonphase watches. There is some playful banter and some legit debate. Ripley is triple-wristing, and he shows of his Casio watch ring, a sight not to be missed. Next up, they team discusses the latest from Vacheron Constantin, priced at a mere 32k. But the question is: Hit, Miss or Maybe? (Ariel has A LOT to say here.) And what about the new Tissot Chemin des Tourelles Skeleton? Gateway drug or easy-access formula — or both? Lastly, how can one diss The Muppets? Find out in this discussion of the new Oris ProPilot X Miss Piggy watch. • 153. The Rocky Horror Picture Show Of Watches
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is out sick (but he is listening). David and Ripley are present and accounted for, and Ariel jumps right in with a discussion of some of his predictions for 2025. He thinks the theme song from The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the best background for this discussion because we're in somewhat of a time warp. His top five trends? Listen in to find out. Hint: There are five, and he goes through them one by one and asks the others what they think of his powers of prophecy. Ariel then turns attention to two fun year-end roundups, the 10 articles we published in 2024 that got the most eyeballs and our top 10 articles with the highest number of reader comments. Next up, there's a discussion of the Longines Ultra-Chron Carbon watch, and the guys go back and forth on the merits of this particular design. What about the TAG Heuer's return as the official Formula 1 timekeeper? David gives an overview of what this article covers, both historically and in the present. MB&F's new M.A.D. Edition watches are the next topic of conversation, along with the various ways you can get your hands on one. Talk gets racy with consideration of Breguet's Classique 7145 Lunar New Year 2025 (luxe House of Slytherin, says Ripley). There's a segway to convo about American watchmaking, and Ripley elaborates on Mike's thesis: There will be no full-scale return to American watchmaking. Instead of Hit, Miss, Maybe, the team ends the show by looking at the latest Favre Leuba.

  • 152. The Best, The Worst, And The Bang Average Of 2024
This week on aBlogtoWatch Weekly, Rick is virtually flanked not only by Ripley, David, and Ariel, but he's also got three guests on board for this week: Kevin Roberts, Alon Ben Joseph, and Simon Ryan. They begin by doing a round-robin of "Where are you, and what are you wearing?" meaning "What watch are you wearing." This greases the wheels for Rick's Rules of Order, in which Rick discusses how the show will unfold vis-a-vis the four categories he's asked each guest to speak to on this NYE show: the best watch release of 2024; the best brand of 2024; the worst watch release of 2024; and the most "bang-average" watch of 2024 (which causes understandable confusion for the non-UK participants). Tune in to hear what each watch lover has to say at the tail end of this interesting year of watches. Bremont Terra Nova Dual Time Tourbillon Watch H.
